JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) announced that nearly 1,700 Mississippians utilized the Life Insurance Policy Locator in 2024, successfully recovering lost life insurance policies. These policies were valued at over $37 million.
Since its launch in 2016, the program has uncovered more than $135 million in unclaimed benefits for Mississippi residents. Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney (R-Miss.) emphasized the program’s importance in protecting families. “Life insurance protects your family financially. What better way to show someone you love them than by thinking of their future,” Chaney stated. “Valentine’s Day is a good reminder to consider purchasing life insurance. Talk to your insurance agent about your options. Once you’ve bought life insurance, keep a copy of the policy somewhere your family will know to find it.”
Chaney highlighted that millions of dollars in life insurance benefits go unclaimed annually because beneficiaries are unable to locate existing policies or are unaware of them. The Life Insurance Policy Locator was created to address this issue, providing a valuable service to the state’s residents.
