Climate Change Talk at Camden Public Library
CAMDEN — CamdenCAN and the Camden Public Library are presenting “How to Instigate Action on Climate Change,” featuring Kerry Emanuel, Professor Emeritus of Atmospheric Science at MIT. The event will take place on Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m., both in-person at the Picker Room and via Zoom.

“Property insurance rates are skyrocketing in Camden and nationwide due in large part to catastrophes like wildfires in Los Angeles and hurricanes in Florida that are caused or worsened by climate change,” the library stated in a news release. “Yet the greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change continue to rise, and little is being done to adapt infrastructure to handle the change.”
Emanuel argues that current tax and insurance systems inadvertently encourage building and rebuilding in high-risk areas. He will present ideas for reversing this trend and discuss practical measures for adapting to a changing climate.

Dr. Emanuel’s expertise in atmospheric science is extensive. He has authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers and three books, including Divine Wind: The History and Science of Hurricanes, aimed at a general audience, and What We Know about Climate Change, published by the MIT Press.
This event is hosted by CamdenCAN (ClimateActionNow), a citizen-led organization.
