Nationwide Launches Property Unit, Names Tonya Courtney as Leader

Columbus, OH – March 6, 2025 – Nationwide has announced the establishment of a new Excess & Surplus (E&S) Brokerage Property unit. The initiative is led by Tonya Courtney, an industry veteran, with the goal of beginning operations during the latter half of the year.

This strategic move reflects Nationwide’s commitment to offering specialized solutions for the evolving challenges within the commercial property insurance market. The new unit will build on the company’s already robust E&S Brokerage Casualty portfolio.

Courtney brought over 30 years of experience in commercial lines insurance to Nationwide in December. Her expertise includes managing intricate property portfolios, building wholesale relationships, and driving underwriting excellence. At the helm of the new E&S Brokerage Property unit, Courtney will concentrate on crafting customized solutions for challenging property risks across various sectors. She will report to David Nelson, Executive Vice President, E&S Wholesale at Nationwide.

“Tonya’s vision and proven track record make her the ideal leader to launch this important endeavor. This initiative demonstrates our unwavering dedication to empowering businesses to navigate the unique challenges of the E&S property space with confidence and agility,” said Nelson.

The Nationwide E&S Brokerage Property unit aims to provide a full range of non-admitted wholesale products and services. These offerings are designed to address high-risk situations that require specialized underwriting expertise. With a focus on superior service, the new division seeks to become a trusted partner for select brokers searching for innovative risk management solutions for their commercial property exposures.

Before joining Nationwide, Courtney served as Regional Vice President for Arch Insurance Company. There, she led the Southeast Region E&S Property team and oversaw the underwriting strategy and delivery of property insurance products and services through the wholesale distribution channel.
