The Association of Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers (ABIR), The Institutes Knowledge Group, and Bermuda College have joined forces to enhance insurance education for college students in Bermuda. This partnership aims to provide students with critical leadership and technical skills through the CPCU Collegiate Studies Programme, opening doors to rewarding careers.
L’Tanya Roberts, Dean of the Division of Business, Hospitality, and Technical Education at Bermuda College, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This partnership represents an incredible opportunity to inspire and prepare students for impactful careers in the insurance and reinsurance industry. These courses not only build knowledge but also open doors for internships and career pathways that extend far beyond the classroom.”
The collaborative initiative seeks to:
- Educate Bermuda College students on key technical insurance skills.
- Connect students with a professional network through ABIR.
- Increase awareness of the diverse career prospects within the risk management and insurance sectors.
Adam Carmichael, President of The Institutes Knowledge Group, emphasized the collaborative spirit driving the project, noting, “This initiative exemplifies the collaborative spirit of The Institutes’ and our shared dedication to advancing risk management and insurance knowledge.”
As part of this program, Bermuda College introduced The Institutes’ CPCU 500 course, “Becoming a Leader in Risk Management and Insurance,” in the autumn of 2024. CPCU 520, “Meeting Challenges Across Insurance Operations,” is scheduled for the spring semester. These courses equip students with essential knowledge and offer a pathway to earn credits toward the internationally recognized CPCU programme. The CPCU designation is valued as a premier credential for leadership in property-casualty insurance.
Students enrolled in these courses gain access to a comprehensive curriculum and valuable networking opportunities through ABIR member organizations. This preparation is crucial for assuming leadership roles in a field vital to global economic stability and resilience. The Institutes Knowledge Group brings over 110 years of experience in providing risk management and insurance-related professional development programs to this collaboration.
“Through the CPCU Collegiate Studies, we aim to prepare students for meaningful and fulfilling careers in risk management and insurance,” Carmichael added.
