Pets Plus Us and CFIB Partner to Expand Pet Insurance Access Across Canada

TORONTO, Feb. 21, 2025 – Pets Plus Us, a leading pet insurance provider in Canada, has joined forces with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) to broaden access to pet insurance for small businesses nationwide. The initiative is expected to reach more than 100,000 small businesses and their employees across the country.

“Pets Plus Us is dedicated to ensuring the health and well-being of Canada’s furry companions,” said Eric Coulson, Senior Managing Director of Insurance Growth, Expansion & Strategy in Canada at Pets Plus Us. “We’re proud to be partnering with CFIB to serve the small business community and make pet insurance more accessible.”

Pet insurance is designed to provide peace of mind for pet owners and help offset often-significant veterinary costs. Unexpected vet bills can quickly become a financial burden, and pet insurance can alleviate this strain by covering eligible medical expenses.

In Canada, a typical vet visit for an accident or illness averages over $500, while surgery can easily exceed $1,000, according to 2023 claims data from PTZ Insurance Services, Ltd. With nearly 60 percent of Canadian households owning pets, as of 2022, the potential for unexpected vet costs is high.

Through this partnership, CFIB members and their employees will gain access to several benefits, including:

    • A special discount on Pets Plus Us pet insurance policies.
    • Coverage up to $15,000 per year for eligible accidents and illnesses, including consultations, exams, emergency care, hospitalization, surgeries, medications, and specialist referrals.
    • Complimentary support services such as 24/7 emergency telehealth, access to the Pet Poison Helpline®, and pet bereavement support.

“We recognize the growing demand for pet insurance across the country, and are excited to partner with Pets Plus Us to deliver ongoing value to CFIB members, their employees, and their families by making it even more affordable,” stated Dan Kelly, President and CEO at CFIB.

All policies started through the partnership will receive a discount, increasing accessibility of pet insurance across the country.

With a focus on outstanding customer service and a deep care for animals’ well-being, Pets Plus Us offers various insurance options to fulfill the unique needs of each pet and their owner.
