Prestige Underwriting Survey Highlights Growing Demand for Specialized Insurance Products

Prestige Underwriting’s recent broker survey has revealed a significant increase in demand for non-standard home and motor insurance solutions. The survey demonstrates brokers’ strong appetite for tailored products that address complex client needs. Unoccupied homes topped the list of growth areas, with 75% of brokers identifying this segment as key – a substantial rise from 55% last year. Homes at risk of flooding followed closely, with interest growing to 64% from 55%. Thatched properties also saw an increase in broker interest, rising from 12% to 17%. Meanwhile, homes at risk of subsidence remained a steady focus area, with 27% of brokers citing continued opportunities despite a slight decrease.

On the motor insurance side, demand for coverage of high-performance vehicles continued to grow, with 36% of brokers marking it as a key segment, up from 32% in 2024. The insights gathered from brokers have been instrumental in shaping Prestige Underwriting’s product development. Their feedback led to Prestige Underwriting becoming the first Managing General Agency (MGA) to partner with Flood Re and support its Build Back Better scheme. Additionally, in response to probate delays affecting unoccupied homes, Prestige Underwriting launched a comprehensive Short-Term Unoccupied Property Insurance product last year. This policy is designed to protect homes during the probate process, offering estate planners and brokers the flexibility needed to maintain continuous coverage.

Alison Williams, Managing Director at Prestige Underwriting, commented, “These findings confirm what we hear from our broker partners daily – non-standard insurance is where the opportunities lie. Whether it’s unoccupied homes, high-performance cars, or homes at flood risk, brokers need dependable, specialist solutions that meet their clients’ evolving needs.” Williams further emphasized Prestige Underwriting’s commitment to leveraging broker insights to develop innovative products that help brokers respond confidently to a rapidly changing market.

Prestige Underwriting remains dedicated to supporting brokers as they navigate these emerging opportunities. The company continues to offer bespoke solutions for non-standard risks, leveraging its specialist expertise to ensure brokers can deliver ongoing value to their clients.
