QBE Insurance New Zealand has announced a partnership with Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) to support environmental restoration efforts and enhance climate resilience throughout the country.

Environmental Initiative Involves Employees and Partners

The collaboration involves financial contributions and active participation from QBE employees, customers, and business partners. Volunteers will have opportunities to engage in hands-on conservation activities focused on revitalizing waterways and natural habitats.

Jonathan Groves, chief executive officer of QBE New Zealand & Pacific, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability in Aotearoa. “Our environment is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s greatest Taonga (treasures), and taking care of it is key to ensuring our communities remain strong and resilient,” Groves stated. He added that the partnership provides an opportunity for QBE’s staff, clients, and associates to take part in practical conservation endeavors alongside experts devoted to protecting New Zealand’s natural landscapes.

As part of this initiative, QBE will support two important CVNZ-led restoration projects: the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor in Christchurch and the Papakura Stream restoration in Auckland. Volunteers will assist with tasks such as reforestation and habitat restoration.

Aaron Jaggar, general manager of CVNZ, sees the partnership as a boost to the organization’s capability to involve the public in environmental programs. “This support will allow us to significantly increase our impact and engage even more members of the community in planting and restoration activities. We can’t wait to see QBE volunteers making a real impact in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, and Ōtautahi Christchurch,” Jaggar commented.

This collaboration follows the launch of the QBE Foundation’s Catalysing Impact program, an initiative designed to support purpose-driven businesses and impact enterprises focusing on climate resilience and social inclusion.

Developed in collaboration with Social Impact Hub, the Catalysing Impact program provides financial aid and strategic guidance to assist participating organizations in securing third-party investment. Funding ranges from $10,000 to $400,000, along with access to mentorship in impact measurement and business development.

“This initiative not only provides funding but also leverages the expertise of our employees, enabling us to drive meaningful, long-term change while strengthening our connection to the communities we operate in,” noted Viv Bower, chair of the QBE Global Foundation. Businesses that meet the criteria can submit expressions of interest for the program until March 3.
