Tesla China Experiences Notable Surge in Vehicle Registrations
Tesla China saw a significant increase in new vehicle registrations during the week of June 9 to 15, 2025. The company recorded 15,500 insurance registrations, marking an 80% week-over-week rise and representing the highest number of registrations in the past ten weeks. This surge was the most notable among Chinese EV brands, with Xpeng and Nio following at 52% and 9.3% week-over-week growth, respectively.

Industry watchers estimate that Tesla China delivered approximately 11,200 new Model Y units during this period, indicating an 85% week-over-week improvement. The Model Y remains Tesla’s highest-volume seller, and its strong performance is expected to significantly contribute to the company’s Q2 2025 sales figures. Tesla has two weeks remaining in the quarter, which should help boost its quarterly sales numbers.
Tesla’s domestic sales in China totaled 38,588 units in May, down 30% year-over-year but up 34% from April. Giga Shanghai exported 23,074 vehicles in May. The company’s performance in China is closely monitored through new vehicle registration data, as Tesla China does not release weekly registration figures.
Tesla’s Expanding Global Presence
In related news, Tesla is preparing to launch in India in July 2025, with vehicles already being shipped from Giga Shanghai. The company has been working to address previous concerns about import duties and is now setting up Supercharging infrastructure and preparing for aftermarket parts and merchandise.

This development comes after years of negotiations between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dating back to their meeting in 2015. The Indian government has reduced import duties from 110% to 15% for companies committing to invest in the country, paving the way for Tesla’s entry into this vast market.
Tesla’s Autonomous Developments
Meanwhile, Tesla has begun rolling out invites for its Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. The initial rollout is invite-only, with participants required to download Tesla’s dedicated Robotaxi App. The service will operate within a geofenced area from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM, seven days a week, with a Tesla staff member monitoring the vehicles.

These developments highlight Tesla’s continued growth and innovation in the electric vehicle and autonomous driving sectors, both in China and globally.
