    Florida House District 32 Primary: Republicans Face Off

    Three Republican candidates – Terry Cronin, Brian Hodgers, and Bob White – are vying for the chance to represent District 32 in the Florida House of Representatives. Registered Republicans will vote in the special primary election on April 1st to determine who will face Democrat Juan Hinojosa on June 10th. The winner of the general election will fill the seat vacated by longtime legislator Debbie Mayfield. Key issues in the race include health care, property insurance, and infrastructure.

    The Candidates

    Here’s a look at each candidate:

    Terry Cronin:

    Republican Terry Cronin, is an announced candidate for Florida House District 32.

    • Occupation: Physician (Dermatologist)
    • Key Issues: Improving health care, property insurance, and infrastructure.
    • Experience: Former president of multiple medical societies and co-founder of the Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival.

    Cronin’s platform focuses on expanding access to quality care, supporting veterans, mental health services, and giving parents a say in their children’s education.

    Brian Hodgers:

    Brian Hodgers, of Viera, is running for the Florida House District 32 seat.

    • Occupation: Real estate broker & insurance agent
    • Key Issues: Lowering property insurance rates, capping property taxes, and easing regulatory burdens on small businesses.
    • Experience: Served on government affairs committees for the Florida Association of Insurance Agents and the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, and the Brevard County Planning and Zoning Board, among others.

    Hodgers aims to leverage his insurance expertise to address the current insurance crisis and advocate for consumer interests.

    Bob White:

    • Occupation: Retired developer and custom home builder
    • Key Issues: Border security, Second Amendment rights, protecting the Indian River Lagoon, and restricting political committee contributions.
    • Experience: Former candidate for Brevard County School Board and Governor of Florida, and served on several community boards, including the Brevard County Planning & Zoning Board.

    White’s platform emphasizes conservative principles and protecting local resources. He has also been active in local Republican organizations.

    Campaign Developments

    While the race has been relatively quiet, a political committee recently brought up a past issue involving White. He addressed the 2001 forgery/fraud charge, explaining it as a payment dispute with subcontractors. White said he ultimately paid the subcontractors, and the charge was dropped. Robert Burns, a political blogger, has questioned Cronin’s residency, though Cronin has stated his intent to reside in the district as required by law.
