Top Home and Auto Insurance Deals for Veterans

Veterans deserve the best when it comes to protecting their homes and vehicles. Finding the right insurance can bring valuable peace of mind, but it’s important to balance coverage with affordability. Fortunately, several insurance providers offer competitive rates and specialized services for veterans. This article highlights some of the top choices for home and auto insurance, offering a range of options to suit different needs.

Some insurance companies offer deals or discounts for veterans and military members.

It’s worth noting that personalized rates vary depending on individual circumstances. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to shop around and compare quotes before making a decision.

    Carriers with Veteran-Specific Offers

    • USAA: Founded in 1922 by Army officers, USAA continues its commitment to the military community. While USAA doesn’t provide a specific discount for veterans, it offers excellent rates for members. Many people who switch to USAA from other companies save an average of $725 annually on auto insurance premiums. Veterans could potentially save up to 10% on their coverage if their parents were in the military and already have a USAA auto policy. Bundling home and auto insurance with USAA can also net a 10% discount. U.S. News & World Report recognizes USAA as the top car insurance carrier for affordability and customer service.

    • Farmers: Although Farmers Insurance began in 1928 as a provider for farmers, it has evolved into a national insurer. The company offers special discounts to the military community that apply to active duty personnel, reservists, and veterans. Customers switching to Farmers auto insurance may save an average of $413. Bundling home and auto policies can also lead to discounts. However, according to U.S. News & World Report, Farmers ranks sixth on the list of best auto insurance companies because of its relatively high premiums.

    • GEICO: Established as the Government Employees Insurance Company in 1936, GEICO initially focused on federal employees and select members of the armed services. The company still supports the military by providing discounts up to 15% on insurance for active-duty service members, retirees, National Guard, and Reserves. It also offers an unspecified discount to members of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA), and Navy League of the United States (NLUS). U.S. News & World Report places GEICO in the number four spot (tied with Nationwide) on its list of the best auto insurance carriers because of its low rates, customer service, and diverse discount offerings.

Carriers Offering Good Services and Rates

    • American Family: Initially launched in 1927 as Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, the company adopted its current name in 1963. It has no special relationship to the military, but it maintains a Veteran and Military Business Resource Group. Notably, the company is known for its excellent claims handling service. U.S. News & World Report ranks it as the second-best auto insurance carrier due to its high customer service scores. Forbes Advisor lists it as a low-cost homeowners insurance option among major carriers. American Family claims that combining home and auto insurance policies can save customers up to 23% on both.

    • Nationwide: Founded in 1926 as Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Nationwide changed its name in 1955 as it expanded. The company employs thousands of veterans, provides expanded benefits to those actively serving, and maintains a Military Associate Resource Group to support its military-connected employees. Though Nationwide doesn’t provide specific discounts to veterans, Forbes Advisor lists the company as among the most affordable for home insurance. U.S. News & World Report places its auto insurance in the top four due to excellent customer service and claims handling. Nationwide states that its customers can save an average of $646 by bundling their home and auto insurance.

    • State Farm: State Farm was founded in 1922 with the goal of providing affordable automobile insurance to farmers in Illinois. It has since become a major national insurance provider. Although State Farm does not offer dedicated discounts to veterans, it typically has cost-effective plans. In fact, U.S. News & World Report lists State Farm in the number three slot on its list of best car insurance carriers because its premiums tend to be below the national average, as well as the fact that its customers give it high marks for service. According to Forbes Advisor, State Farm’s homeowners insurance premiums are among the lowest. The company advertises that you can save up to $1,073 by bundling auto and homeowners insurance.

Choosing home and auto insurance is a crucial decision. By comparing different options and considering the unique benefits offered by providers like USAA, GEICO, Farmers, American Family, Nationwide, and State Farm, veterans can find insurance coverage that provides both peace of mind and financial value.
