    Business Travel Insurance Gap Exposed

A recent study by TravelPerk has revealed that 44% of business travellers lack an official company-level travel insurance policy, leaving many exposed to risks while travelling for work. With 24% relying on personal insurance plans and 15% on credit card policies, the need for comprehensive corporate travel insurance has never been more pressing.

The research, conducted by OnePoll among 3,000 business travellers across the UK, Germany, and Spain, found that travel disruptions are commonplace. In 2024, 78% of global business travellers experienced some form of travel disruption, with 13% encountering lost or delayed luggage and 11% facing personal health or medical emergencies.

In response to this gap in coverage, TravelPerk has launched a new medical and baggage insurance product for its European customers booking return flights. Powered by battleface, this add-on offers up to £10 million in medical coverage and £2,000 in baggage cover, providing seamless protection through the TravelPerk platform.

The UK launch follows successful implementation across Europe and reflects TravelPerk’s commitment to building flexible, localized solutions. UK business travellers are leading the way in proactivity around travel protection, with 62% reporting company-provided travel insurance, compared to 51% in Germany.

Jon Hoar, SVP Product at TravelPerk, commented: “When we surveyed business travellers, nearly 30% had encountered medical issues during work travel that were not covered by their policy and 39% reported being unprotected for lost luggage. This new offering is our solution so they are covered for any eventuality – simple, reliable protection built directly into our platform, ensuring our customers can travel with confidence.”

The new insurance offering complements TravelPerk’s wider protection suite, including FlexiPerk for trip cancellations and 24/7 in-trip customer care. Sasha Gainullin, CEO of battleface, added: “This partnership ensures that high-quality travel insurance is no longer an afterthought. By embedding our coverage and 24/7 global support directly into TravelPerk’s platform, we’re delivering seamless, tech-enabled protection that gives travel admins and employers confidence their teams are covered – wherever work takes them.”
