A 47-year-old Utah nurse, Meggan Randall Sundwall, has been arrested and accused of aggravated murder and obstruction of justice in the death of her friend, Kacee Lyn Terry, 38. Court documents show that over five years, Sundwall allegedly convinced Terry she was battling cancer, despite Terry’s good health. The alleged motive for the crime was a life insurance policy.
According to court documents obtained by KSL, Sundwall allegedly tried to persuade Terry to end her suffering with a lethal dose of insulin, believing Terry was the beneficiary of a life insurance policy rumored to be worth $1.5 million. “Detectives were told by Kacee’s family and friends that Meggan had been trying to kill Kacee, with insulin, for years,” Lone Peak police said, as reported by KSL. Digital evidence from Terry’s phone allegedly corroborated this theory, revealing over 28,000 messages between the two women. The police booking affidavit details Sundwall’s alleged discussions about how she would kill herself if she were Terry and her offers to “help” her friend die. The messages also purportedly revealed financial problems Sundwall and her husband were facing after she lost her job.
